****** Coming into 2014 I didn't know whether to expect a new album from Ayah or not. I was surprised when I found out she'd be releasing an EP and wasn't sure what to expect. This was the first taste of the EP and I instantly found it great and that quickly grew to love. At the time this felt like such a fluke #1. That's not to say I found it a weak one, because it was up against "High", which is my favourite song of the year so far. Anyway that was when "High" was still strong, so strong that it got back to #1 restricting "Keep Me Up"'s #1 run to a week!
Even though it was #3 on my mid-year, I feel like I started to enjoy it much more than I ever had when the "Bass Soldiers EP" was released. I find it so incredible and still as fresh and enjoyable as it was back when it was in the top 5 of my chart. Metrik's production on this is just sublime and Ayah is flawless too. I also really loved the chilled vibe it gives off despite it being energetic d&b. In the context of the EP it's even more enjoyable. In hindsight I regret not giving it a longer run at #1 or keeping it up #lamepun in my top 5 for longer. Although at least I did actually give it a week at #1 though. The reality is that now it's very much in the running for my 2014 EOY #1, along with the aforementioned track.
I'd also like to say that this track, along with the EP have confirmed my love for Ayah's music and I think has put her as my absolute favourite female artist. I'm very much looking forward to what Ayah has planned next, given that this era has been so delightful.
Edit: Well it ended up being #2 on my EOY (was #1 for a bit while I was preparing it) but I do really love it. One thing I'd like to point out though, is that even though I really love the ending I think the song is a bit too short, feels like it's over too soon. Still such an enjoyable listen.
